Shared Mental Models for Human-Robot Teams
نویسندگان
چکیده
Shared mental models have been shown to improve human team performance. We thus conjecture that shared mental models (SMMs) integrated into cognitive robotic architectures might also improve the performance of mixed humanrobot teams. To date, very little research has focused on developing appropriate computational constructs that can support domain independence and generalizability, while also being scalable. In this paper, we outline our proposed development of SMMs for cognitive robots.

A framework for developing and using shared mental models in human-agent teams
Converging evidence from psychology, human factors, management and organizational science, and other related fields suggests that humans working in teams employ shared mental models to represent and use pertinent information about the task, the equipment, the team members and their roles. In particular, shared mental models are used to interact efficiently with other team members and to track p...
متن کاملShared Mental Models of Distributed Human-Robot Teams for Coordinated Disaster Responses
Shared Mental Models (SSM) are crucial for adequate coordination of activities and resource deployment in disaster responses. Both human and robot are actors in the construction of such models. Based on a situated Cognitive Engineering (sCE) methodology, we identified the needs, functions and evaluation paradigm for this model construction support. Via prototyping, some basic functions proved t...
متن کاملTowards Measuring Sharedness of Team Mental Models by Compositional Means
The better the team mental model, the better the teamwork. An important aspect of what determines a good team model is the extent to which the model is shared by the team members. This paper presents suggestions for measuring the extent to which teams have a shared mental model and describes how these measures are related to team performance. The most promising measures of sharedness proposed s...
متن کاملSupporting task-oriented collaboration in human-robot teams using semantic-based path planning
Improvements in robot autonomy are changing the human-robot interaction from low-level manipulation to high-level task-based collaboration. For a task-oriented collaboration, a human assigns sub-tasks to robot team members. In this paper, we consider task-oriented collaboration of humans and robots in a cordon and search problem. We focus on a path-planning framework with natural language input...
متن کاملShared Mental Models - A Conceptual Analysis
The notion of a shared mental model is well known in the literature regarding team work among humans. It has been used to explain team functioning. The idea is that team performance improves if team members have a shared understanding of the task that is to be performed and of the involved team work. We maintain that the notion of shared mental model is not only highly relevant in the context o...
